About this product
The Akai AFX is a 4-channel USB pad controller and mixer designed for Serato DJ. It features 8 pads for triggering samples, cues, or effects, and is intended to work alongside Serato's software for effects control. As a single deck controller, it adds tactile FX manipulation to your setup. The unit is compact and black, with USB connectivity. While lacking a built-in mixer, it complements the AMX or other Serato mixers. This controller is aimed at DJs who want hands-on effects control without taking up much space.
Our take
The AFX adds a welcome layer of control to my Serato setup. The 8 pads are responsive and customizable for effects, loops, or samples. It's small enough to fit next to my AMX, creating a compact modular system. The build is decent for the price, but it feels a bit lightweight. One downside is that it relies on software for full functionality; without Serato, it's limited. At $280, it's an investment in your workflow if you're serious about effects manipulation. Great for on-the-fly creativity, but not a standalone controller.
